DEFENCE NEWS

  • India is developing a new version of the Agni missile carrying a 7.5-tonne conventional (non-nuclear) warhead.
  • The Indian Navy commissioned INS Tamal (F 71) on 01 July 2025 at Yantar Shipyard, Kaliningrad, Russia.
  • Yard 12652 (Udaygiri), the second ship of Project 17A stealth frigate, was delivered to the Indian Navy on 01 July 2025 by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL).

NATIONAL NEWS

  • Union Home Minister Amit Shah released a new book titled ‘The Emergency Diaries – Years that Forged a Leader’ in New Delhi on the occasion of ‘Samvidhan Hatya Diwas’, chronicling Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s contributions during the Emergency (1975–77).
  • The Uttar Pradesh government sanctioned the establishment of two new Rhino Rehabilitation Areas (RRA-3 and RRA-4) in Dudhwa National Park, Lakhimpur, with a ₹1.5 crore budget, under a long-term conservation initiative.
  • The MoEFCC also issued ‘Model Rules for Felling of Trees in Agricultural Lands’, introducing a digital National Timber Management System (NTMS) portal for transparent approvals.
  • India has enforced new trade restrictions on jute and allied product imports from Bangladesh, effective June 27, 2025, permitting entry only through Nhava Sheva Port (Mumbai) to protect domestic producers.

  • On 01 July 2025, the Cabinet sanctioned a ₹1 lakh crore R&D & Innovation Scheme, offering low-interest, long-term funding for industry-led R&D in strategic sectors, under the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF).
  • CM Bhupendra Patel inaugurated the Jan Suraksha Santrupti Abhiyan in Gandhinagar (June 30, 2025) — a 3-month national campaign (July–Sept 2025) to ensure access to social security schemes.
  • The Karnataka Cabinet approved renaming Bengaluru City University after Dr. Manmohan Singh, honouring his economic and academic contributions.
  • Under the Smart Cities Mission, Indore Municipal Corporation launched a Digital House Address Project replacing old addresses with QR-coded GPS-linked plates integrated into the national Digipin system.

  • PM Narendra Modi received Ghana’s highest civilian honour – Officer of the Order of the Star of Ghana, conferred by President John Dramani Mahama.
  • PM Modi was also awarded the Order of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, the nation’s highest civilian award, during his official visit.

  • India has successfully completed user trials of the Extended Range Anti-Submarine Rocket (ERASR) — a fully indigenous naval weapon designed to detect and destroy enemy submarines.
  • Conducted from INS Kavaratti between June 23 and July 7, 2025, the trials involved 17 rocket launches across multiple ranges.
  • Defence Minister Rajnath Singh praised the DRDO, Indian Navy, and domestic defence industry for enhancing India’s maritime defence and self-reliance in technology.
  • On July 9, 2025, the Indian Navy received INS Nistar, its first indigenously designed and built Diving Support Vessel (DSV) from Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL), Visakhapatnam.
  • With 75% indigenous content, the ship supports deep sea diving (up to 300m) and submarine rescue operations using DSRV and ROVs (up to 1000m).
  • This strengthens India’s underwater mission capability and reflects the Atmanirbhar Bharat vision.
